Bible put on a pinhead-size chip
Researchers in Israel say they have succeeded in putting a version of the Bible on a chip smaller than a pinhead. Its 300,000 words in Hebrew were inscribed on a silicon surface at the Haifa Institute of Technology. Scientists say the aim of the project is to increase young people's interest in nanoscience and nanotechnology. The record for the smallest copy is held by a Bible measuring 2.8x3.4x1cm (1.1x1.3x0.4in), weighing 11.75g (0.4 ounces) and containing 1,514 pages. The 0.5sq-mm (0.01sq-in) nano-Bible was written on a silicon surface covered with a thin layer of gold (20nanometres thick - 0.0002mm). |

Benazir Bhutto killed in attack
Pakistani former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto has been assassinated in a suicide attack. Ms Bhutto had just addressed an election rally in Rawalpindi when she was shot in the neck by a gunman who then set off a bomb. At least 15 other people died in the attack and several more were injured. President Pervez Musharraf and his government called on people to remain calm so that the "nefarious designs of terrorists can be defeated." |
The explosion tore through the mosque, near the city of Peshawar, as about 1,000 people offered prayers for the Muslim festival of Eid al-Adha. Aftab Sherpao, interior minister in the outgoing government, was in the congregation but was unhurt. His son was among about 100 people injured. The violence comes as Pakistan prepares for a general election next month. |

Thieves cut off man's 'holy leg'
The 80-year-old holy man, Yanadi Kondaiah, claimed to have healing powers in the leg. He is now recovering from his ordeal in hospital in the city of Tirupati in the state of Andhra Pradesh. Local people believed they could be healed of spiritual and physical problems if they touched his leg. They also believed in Mr Kondaiah's predictions of the future. Police say the incident happened 550 km north of the state capital, Hyderabad. 'Brutal manner'
Police say that the self-styled 'Godman' - who lives in a village near the city of Tirupati - was approached a few days ago by two strangers who came to seek his advice over a medical problem. They say that the pair returned to the old man on Tuesday ostensibly to thank him for his help. "As the old man had the weakness of drinking, he accepted their invitation to have drinks with them," said local police Sub-Inspector Pendakanti Dastgiri. "They took him to a deserted spot in the outskirts of the village. "After the old man had passed out under the influence of liquor, they cut off his right leg from the knee," he said. |
I feel compelled and obliged to issue a classic disclaimer regarding my free press/blog. For those who initially understand my concept of free, unhindered parody on mainstream press/media and dissemination of information - my congratulation; for those coneheads who just simply don't get it, partially due to diluted, debilitating mass, pop, so called culture, I have to express my deep condolences and profound dissatisfaction.

' Fake penis' sex attacker jailed
A sex attacker who hid a carrot in his trousers and pretended it was his erect penis has been jailed for 18 months. Driving instructor Stephen Cooney, 51, groped three female learner drivers in a series of attacks on Teesside dating back to 2002. A jury at Teesside Crown Court found him guilty of two indecent assaults and two sexual assaults. Cooney, of Marske-by-the-Sea near Redcar, told the court the carrot incident was a "practical joke". The court heard how Cooney put the 12-inch carrot down his trousers and told a pupil in her 40s that a perfectly executed manoeuvre was so good that it had given him an erection. He then took her hand and made her touch the vegetable before showing her the carrot, the court heard. He denied placing her hand on his groin, but admitted hiding the vegetable in his pocket. |

Hindu gods get summons from court
A judge in India has summoned two Hindu gods, Ram and Hanuman, to help resolve a property dispute. Judge Sunil Kumar Singh in the eastern state of Jharkhand has issued adverts in newspapers asking the gods to "appear before the court personally". The gods have been asked to appear before the court on Tuesday, after the judge said that letters addressed to them had gone unanswered. Ram and Hanuman are among the most popular Indian Hindu gods. Judge Singh presides in a "fast track" court - designed to resolve disputes quickly - in the city of Dhanbad. |
